In February 1991, I became the proud owner of a Zoom 9002 guitar effects unit. This lightweight, programmable processor was cutting-edge technology for its time. I spent countless hours delving into its features. Among the numerous effects, I stumbled upon a stereo delay with alternating reflections bouncing between the left and right channels. It was called Ping-Pong Delay.
I absolutely loved the sonic bounces it produced and the resulting interplay between the guitar playing and the stereo reflections. It created a kind of sonic spring… Ping-Pong Blues emerged from this interactive experimentation with the effect. I play it often. It’s a light, bouncy, and fun piece.
